ERLS SYSTEM 3 WATER INJECTIN SYSTEM IN ACTION
Probably the most advanced water injection system in the world. It is capable of "listen and learn", total 3D map has 9,000 mapping locations, divided into 64 points for engine load and 128 points for RPM, each point has 256 levels. Once engine knock is detected, water is automatically injected, look-ahead software enables the system to predict future problem areas. Since it was impossible to map these points manually (compared to the normal fuel injection systems), ERL has programmed the system to write in the 3-D map automatically, given that the microprocessor can do the job relatively easy; even still, a high speed Intel 16-bit 20MHz microcontroller was used, coupled up with two on-board 1MB flash memory modules; one stored the standard map and the other stored the newly recorded data. After each journey, the recorded data: knock locations; engine-, exhaust- and air temperatures were being processed and compared to the standard tables before being stored. Temperatures (season), Barometric pressure (altitude) and fuel quality is being analyzed so the water injection system can predict and inject water precisely when it is needed. The Tempest is the most advanced water injected car to date, ERL has also supply a fully mappable fuel enrichment computer that manages the ignition curve on boost and run a extra set of eight high flow injectors.
